Lake Maggiore's Big Bench is near Wonderwood

The first giant bench on Lake Maggiore with the Pantone colors of the year, grey and yellow, was installed on 5 June 2021 on Monte Carza at an altitude of 1116 meters above sea level.

What is the Big Bench?

The Big bench is nothing more than an art installation that reproduces the typical bench but in maxi dimensions. American designer Chris Bangle built and installed the first Big Bench in 2010 in Clavesana.
Big Benches are growing all over the territory and have become symbolic attractions of the places where they are located.
Furthermore, thanks to the BIG BENCH COMMUNITY PROJECT (BBCP), the construction of the benches supports local communities, tourism, and craftsmanship.

How to get there?

You can get there on foot, by bike, motorbike or car.

The bench was placed along path R24, which connects the village of Cheglio (Trarego Viggiona) to Monte Carza.

On foot from Trarego to Büri in the village of Cheglio.
and then follow the signs for the well-marked R42 trail towards Monte Carza.

For mountain bikers the place is amazing!
You can also rent a MTB bike in Trarego Viggiona or Verbania (MTB or e-MTB).
You can also charge your e-MTB free of charge in the Grotto Carza car park.

By car or motorbike, on the other hand, you can park at the Monte Carza rest area along the SP92 Trarego-Piancavallo road,
or for guests of Grotto Carza and Wonderwood in the restaurant car park. Continue on foot towards the summit of Monte Carza, following the signs for the trail. The Big Bench is only a 20-minute walk from the park, at an altitude of 1116 meters above sea level!

You will soon find yourself in front of the giant bench overlooking a breathtaking panorama!

Opening hours and advice

The bench is always there, for families and adventurers, at all hours of the day, 365 days a year.
Sunrise and sunset are the best moments, as are all the viewpoints: the colors and the reflection on the lake will leave you speechless!

Comfortable shoes are a must for smooth walking in nature, and a hat can be useful on sunny days.

If you don’t yet have your BBCP PASS to collect stamps of the giant benches you visited, run to the Welcome Centre in Wonderwood to get a souvenir of your unforgettable experience or just to give to your friends.
