Lake Maggiore

Nature and villages around Wonderwood

Discovering the territory

Lake Maggiore is simply a wonderful place. Visiting Wonderwood means not only discovering the amusement park with its The most beautiful panorama in Italy, but also take the opportunity to discover a magical area, ideal for slow tourism, fantastic for families with children, relaxing for those who want to switch off, romantic for those on a perpetual honeymoon.

The first giant bench on Lake Maggiore was installed on 5 June 2021 on Monte Carza at an altitude of 1116 metres above sea level. The Big Bench is nothing more than a bench, but it has a special feature: it is maxi-sized.

Leave your car at the Grotto Carza car park (just a 20-minute walk from the Big Bench) and, after a snack or a quick lunch at the WunderBar,take a stroll to the giant bench.
Become a child again and admire the panorama of Lake Maggiore from a different perspective!

Trarego, Cheglio and Viggiona: 100% pure air

Three beautiful villages on Lake Maggiore just a stone’s throw from the beaches.

Turn off your brain and forget the noise of the engines, the summer heat, the mess.

Here you can relax, among open-air works of art, old churches, hidden lanes and… ghost hotels!

Cheglio

A village delight.

Completely pedestrianised, it is ideal for those with children and for those who want a perfect base camp for excursionsto the mountains or the lake.

Surrounded by silence, this is where you will find the Casetta delle Ragazze Ribelli, the Guest House run by Max & Seby, founders of Wonderwood.

Trarego

Art at will.

The narrow streets of the town centre are home to many artists, who never fail to exhibit their works – particularly when the Art Trail is held. For children, there is a playground and a football pitch.

Viggiona

A gem in the mountains.

Ancient churches, hikes through the woods and a village that would be ideal for filming a movie. This is where horse riding starts and where you can taste the local grappa. In this order.

Nature in the mountains:
Monte Carza, Morissolo, Alpe Colle

The mountains of Lake Maggiore just a step away from the beaches.

Whether you are lazy or an experienced Nordic walker, you will find plenty to do. This means, of course, visiting us at Grotto Carza to regain all the calories burned on the hike!

Monte Carza and Cima Ologno

The mountain at our doorstep.

Ditch that car and enjoy the climb. In an hour you will dominate the whole of Lake Maggiore with spectacular views and breathtaking nature. If you are lazy, you can shorten the walk to just 20 minutes… the show remains!

Alpe Colle and Morissolo

Park at Alpe Colle and enjoy the walk up to the summit of Morissolo.

There you can really feel like the master of the world!

On some summer Sundays, you can also immerse yourself in the second-hand book market of the Spalavera Bookshop.

Sport and fun in the open air

Whether you are a mountain biker, an animal lover or a family climber, you have come to the right place.

Mountain biking and cycling

Enthusiasts love this area.

Your two-wheeler here has room to express itself.

Not only have we hosted the Giro d’Italia: from 2019 there is a mountain bike circuit that will make your head spin.

At Ragazze Ribelli your bike stays under cover and at Grotto Carza you can recharge your e-bike. And if you want a guided tour, there are our friends at Lago Maggiore Bike Tours.

Lake Maggiore and its beauties

Of course, if we want to go classic, we have to start with the Borromean Islands.

This, however, would not make us rebels!

So we also want to mention the beautiful Cannero Riviera and Cannobio – two pearls just a stone’s throw away from us, both Blue Flag and Orange Flag.

Cannero Riviera

Chic and wonderful.

We cannot deny it: we are in love with Cannero. From the belle époque lakeside promenade to the Lido where you can bask in the sun, to the chiringuito on the beach where you can listen to live music. And also the hydrofoil to the market in Luino.

Noblesse oblige.

Cannobio

A village for the movies, a lake for the Oscars.

One of those towns that the whole world falls in love with: the cobbled streets, the little bars on the lakefront, the large Lido beach and the water sports.

Nothing is missing, not even the proximity to the Swiss border, for an extra trip.

Stresa and the Borromean Islands

Icons since time immemorial.

Just seeing them in the picture immediately makes you think of Lake Maggiore.

Isola Bella, Isola Madre, Isola Pescatori and the lakeside promenade of Stresa are the heart of the lake.

By staying with us, you can get there in a thousand combinations: be prepared for much, much beauty.
